Drawing & stamping
Petroleum-based drawing oils provide lubrication between the workpiece and tooling during metal deformation. Viscosity affects how the fluid reaches and remains at the contact surfaces; lubricity and extreme-pressure additives help address more demanding forming conditions.
Selection also includes what happens after forming. Consider the cleaning process, acceptable residue, surface finish and any subsequent welding, plating or painting requirements.
Identify the exact metal or alloy, thickness and surface condition.
Review draw depth, reduction, speed, tooling and contact loads.
Match viscosity and delivery to the part, stock and tooling.
Balance lubrication needs with acceptable residue and removal.
QA product range
We offer multiple viscosities and additive approaches. Tell us the severity of your drawing operation and the material being formed; our team will work with you to match a compound to your requirements.
Q-Draw 7740, 7750-46, 7780-22 and 7785 provide options for an application-based review. Share the current fluid, tooling and forming challenges so QA can help narrow the choice.
Q-Draw 7790 and 7795 contain emulsifiers to help make the drawing lubricant easier to remove from parts. Review the cleaner, wash temperature, cycle time and required final cleanliness when choosing a fluid.
| Drawing compound | Product profile | Selection details |
|---|---|---|
| QA Q-Draw 7740 | Application-matched drawing compound | Choose viscosity and additive performance with QA for your material and drawing severity. |
| QA Q-Draw 7750-46 | Application-matched drawing compound | A Q-Draw option for matching fluid viscosity and additive performance to your drawing process. |
| QA Q-Draw 7780-22 | Application-matched drawing compound | Review the material, draw severity, application method and downstream cleaning with QA. |
| QA Q-Draw 7785 | Application-matched drawing compound | A Q-Draw option for a technical review of drawing performance and process requirements. |
| QA Q-Draw 7790 | Emulsifier-containing drawing compound | Contains emulsifiers to help make the lubricant easier to remove from parts after drawing. |
| QA Q-Draw 7795 | Emulsifier-containing drawing compound | Contains emulsifiers to help make the lubricant easier to remove from parts after drawing. |
| QA Draw Compound 420 | Active sulfur additive | Contains active sulfur. Review the workpiece material and additive compatibility with QA. |
| QA Draw Compound 478 | Lubricity additive | Contains a lubricity additive. Match the product to the material and severity of the draw. |
QA product range
Stamping 61400 is our vanishing stamping fluid. For thicker materials or operations requiring more lubrication, review Stamping 61405, 61410 and 61420. Each higher number in this range provides more lubricity and leaves more residue on the part.
| Stamping fluid | Lubrication profile | Residue / selection guide |
|---|---|---|
| QA Stamping 61400 | Vanishing stamping fluid | A vanishing stamping fluid for applications where low residual film is a selection priority. |
| QA Stamping 61405 | Added lubricity for thicker materials | More lubricity than 61400, with more lubricant residue left on the part. |
| QA Stamping 61410 | Higher lubricity for thicker materials | More lubricity than 61405, with a corresponding increase in residue on the part. |
| QA Stamping 61420 | Highest lubricity in this stamping range | More lubricity than 61410 and the greatest residue level in this listed stamping range. |
Choose for the workpiece thickness and forming demand together with the acceptable residual film. Confirm cleaning and downstream-process compatibility for your actual parts.
Application guide
Provide the alloy, coating, thickness, draw geometry, press speed and tooling. Tell us about galling, scoring, tearing, die wear or finish concerns so the lubricant review addresses the actual problem.
Describe lubricant application and collection, cleaning equipment, storage between operations and downstream finishing. For vanishing fluids, confirm that the remaining film meets your process needs. For emulsifier-containing compounds, match the cleaner and wash process to the required cleanliness.
